It was May, 1955. Forty years since the Promised Day; forty years since Alphonse Elric's brother removed Alchemy from the world; and, forty years since Edward Elric brought his brother back to life, Alphonse Elric returning to life spiritually and in flesh. Yes, forty years is a long time. A very long time. Thirty-two years, though, is considerably shorter. Eight years after the Gate was sacrificed, Truth had looked onto the World and made a decision. Truth saw how the humans lived and realized how boring the human existence had become since Alchemy was taken away from them. And so, Truth reconstructed the Gate and gave the World Alchemy once more.
Alchemists, old and new, called that day the Fateful Day; it was the eve of the Promised Day.
"Alright, everyone," Brigadier General James Brown began, a coffee cup in his hand. "Today we're being visited by Brigadier General Alson and two newest test candidates for a State Alchemist's license."
"Any info on either of them, sir?" Second Lieutenant Vili asked, leaning on a counter top.
Brown nodded, saying, "We have the name of the first one; his name is Brast Emmerson."
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Alson was driving into the Western Command HQ grounds with the two candidates. "Brast, I need not tell you the difficulty and expectations my comrade will be expecting from you."
"I understand, Uncle Alson, but there's no job for me outside of the Military and I can perform Alchemy extremely well." Brast replied, sitting forward. He turned to the other Candidate, watching him. He didn't speak, never acknowledged anyone around him other than his superiors.

"Excuse me, is this where Brigadier General Alson is?" A woman asks honestly, poking her head out of the corner of a door. "Am I interrupting something? I'm one of the new candidets, Amy Ragnarok."

"Well, Ms. Ragnarok, if you'll step outside into the waiting area." Brigadier General Brown said. "I'll be testing you in a moment for both psychological and the physical tests."

"Alright." She nods before walking out into the waiting area. She wore a dark blue trench coat, a white T shirt and normal blue pants, her long black hair pushed back into a pony tail besides a few strands in her face. "Hello."

The soldier she had said hello to waved, before continuing toward where he worked. The soldiers that had been in Brown's office had dispersed, with Brown being the only one inside. "Alright, Ms. Ragnarok, if you'll step into my office for your psychological evaluation."

"Alright." She nods while walking into his office, hoping to make this a tad quick and not take up too much of Brown's time.

The door was locked behind her, and Brown began the examination. "Alright, first question: 'What is your interest in the Amestrian military, and why are you applying for the rank of State Alchemist?'" Brown sat down in his desk, clipboard and pen in hand.

"I want to help protect the innocent people, and because I know if I become a state alchemist I'll be able to do just that." She nods.

"Elaborate, please." Brown said, writing down a little bit of what the girl had told him.

"Protecting the innocent people or the being a state alchemist helps that?" Amy asks honestly. "But to elaborate on both of those..." She takes a deep breath. "I want to help the people that can't help themselves, maybe against criminals or against rogue chimera's, or anything really." She says with a nod. "And becoming a state alchemist helps me fulfill that because then I will have more..." She says before thinking of the right word to say. "Capability? No that's not the right word but you get my meaning right? It helps show that I'm apart of the people that help those in need...if that at all makes sense." She says sheepishly, feeling like she's getting off to a bad start with this.

"Alright, next question," Brown continued on with the examination, never looking the girl in the eyes. "What form of Alchemy can you contribute to the Military, the Amestrian People, and your Fuhrer?"

"Um..." She says with a little thought. "Imagine a fire alchemist...but that can make there fire into solid weapons as well. It still contains the heat and if you touch it you still get burned, but it keeps the surrounding area from going up as well...also I, for some reason, can't find someone with a stronger flame alchemy...which will probably be rectified sooner or later."

"Hmph, never thought we'd get another flame alchemist." Brown said, writing down the answer. "I'll just put down that your alchemy can be used for battles and the catching or execution of criminals against the State." The psychological examination continued, with more questions about Amy and her other reasons for joining the military.
On the other side of the office building, Brast was in his psychological examination, just beginning. He saw in front of the officer ahead of him. "I'm ready for my examination, sir." (just ask the same few questions Brigadier General Brown asked Amy.)

(Alright, and sorry if the 'fire alchemist' is generic as hell) Amy shruged and continued answering questions.
"Alright." The psychologist nods before everything is locked. "First question: 'What is your interest in the Amestrian military, and why are you applying for the rank of State Alchemist?'" He asks.

"My father before me was part of the military; my uncle is currently part of the military. I've just recently left high school, and, looking at my options, State Alchemist is right up my alley. Never was for mathematics and the Literary arts, but science is something I was born with fore-knowledge about. Going for State Alchemist is my first task." Brast replied.

"Alright, next question." The psychologist says after writing everything down for what Brast said. "What form of Alchemy can you contribute to the Military, the Amestrian People, and your Fuhrer?"

"A form of blade Alchemy mixed with Xingese Alkehestry." Brast replied. "Through the manipulation of the natural surrounding areas, I would be able to pinpoint slashes at enemies and executing or even crippling them at ease, making for successful captures."

"Alright." The psyche nods and writes it all down, continuing with the examination.

Brast leaned back in his chair, breathing lightly. His uncle, Brigadier General Alson, was always the reason for him joining the State military.
"Alright, now that your psychological examination has been concluded, along with your physical examination, you'll be escorted to your quarters for the night. There, you'll meet the other candidate." Brown dismissed Amelia, whom was taken to the candidate barracks.

"Thank you sir." Amy nods before heading out of the room to be escorted to her quarters. "Let's hope this wasn't too bad..." She thinks to herself while looking around outside Brown's office for whosoever going to lead her to her quarters.

Second Lieutenant Vili escorted Amy to the barracks, where she was met with Brast. Brast was laying in his bed, cleaning the blade of his own Xingese knife, which was what he based all his alchemical and alkehestrical blades on.

"Hi." Brast finished cleaning his blade, sheathing it. "So, are you part of the newest training program, along with me?" He asked, eyebrow slightly raised.

"Yep, but I'm just a simple girl with simple alchemy." She shrugs. "So why are you here if I may ask?" She asks while sitting down on her new bed for the time being.

"Here for the training program, like you." Brast replied. "Your hand is gloved; why is that? I glove my hands as well, and if you tell me why yours are hidden, I shall unveil to you my secret."

She sighs out, taking off her right glove and showing automail. "Lost half of my arm in an accident." She says while rolling up her sleeve and showing up to the elbow of automail. "It's only this arm though, so I'm glad I can at least have one good arm." She says while bringing up her other gloved hand and taking it off showing a perfectly clean hand. "So what about you?" She asks while putting her glove back on and putting her sleeve down.
