"Oh shush you." Crimson says with a massive blush. "But yes...I had a dragoness wife...I still miss her..." He sighs out. "She was the best woman you would have ever met...kind, caring, strong, and made sure no one messed with her or her loved ones..." The green stallion trails off, having fond memories leap to the front of his head about his dragoness love and smiles a little just at the thought of it.

"Some advice for you, Recruit Sleek." Broken Stone stepped into their conversation, looking into the hall as several ponies in black uniforms ran past. "And I suppose your friend, since he's here too. The armory is two floors up, behind an enchanted gate. Hope you know how to pick magic resistant locks, you've got about five minutes." He said, chuckling as he walked out after the other black uniforms. "Enjoy your look around guys, we're headed out to the track. Don't hurt yourselves on the equipment." He said, waving to the other recruits as his walked turned into a jog to catch up to the other uniforms.

"Uh..." Crimson has literally no idea why Broken Stone told them that. "O~kay then..." He frowns, not sure about why he even said that when they weren't talking about weapons or anything.

Sleek grew a grin, heading up the two floors towards the armory. "Wonder what'll be in there... sounds fun." He muttered to himself, chuckling as he reached the third floor.

The lights began flickering, all of the sound in the complex suddenly cutting out as the lights blacked out. A single scream of pain echoed through the building, a low pitched chirping echoing through the dark hallways. It slowly grew in pitch, making the ears of everypony start ringing as it grew in both pitch and suddenly volume. Red lights began flashing in the complex, coming on long enough to outline a monstrous looking creature crouching over two of the recruits. As the lights faded out and came back on, the creature was gone.

"Oh...that's why..." Crimson frowns, running and finding Sleek quickly and following him to the armory.

Sleek heard the scream, thinking to himself on many ways on how to bypass the magical seal that would keep the armory locked.

"Need some help?" Crimson asks Sleek. "Cause I have a feeling your going to need a unicorn to help unlock it."

A deep rumble shook the building, followed by a loud roar echoing up. Screams of panic echoed up to Sleek and Crimson, the words barely audible. "I'd advise you pick the lock quickly, if you're going to follow Stone's advice." A new voice said, a thestral hanging from the ceiling above them. "By the sounds of it, that thing is just about done ripping through the other recruits."

Sleek began thinking, thinking of ways to pick the lock. Magical discharge, or perhaps literally using his comrade's head to bust the lock open? Sleek kept pondering, before he decided to go with the magical discharge. "You! Charge up some magic until it becomes unstable! We're going to magically discharge the magical seal."

"Then you better stand back." Crimson says while focusing on his magic, after a moment his magic got unstable as he tried discharging the lock with his magic. (I hope I said that right?)

The metal of the door groaned, before shooting outwards and smashing into the wall with enough force to embed itself in the stone. "Huh, I figured it would make the door explode into shrapnel. Guess you got lucky." The thestral said as she dropped down from the ceiling. "Well, you're in the armory. Gear up and go fight that monster. If anyone is alive down there, they've got to be struggling by now."

Sleek moved in, looking around him. The room looked large, what with weapons an armor hanging on racks and the lighting being more centered than spread out.

"What's the actual monster? Cause we can't just go in grab random pieces of gear and try and fight it." Crimson frowns, looking around the huge room full of armor and weapons.

The equipment adorning the walls looked familiar, the entire room humming with the feel of magic. There was some equipment there that made no sense to have, such as a set of earther armor inscribed with runes but no gem sockets. The weapons were all very well cared for, everything refined to punctuate their existence as tools of battle. "For anything short of a dragon, you can shove a sword in its head and the issue will resolve itself." The thestral said, walking over to an armor set and grabbing the wing blades off the dummy. She grabbed the blade that was hanging off the armor's waist, pulling the small blade out to check its sharpness. "Not that they'd keep the weapons to deal with dragons in a simple armory with a lock you can pick with magical overload."

"Make's sense." He nods while getting a weapon and some armor and got ready for what sort of monster was to appear.

Sleek grabbed a medium sized armor, sliding into it before he grabbed what looked like a crossbow with a quiver of enchanted bolts to fire.

"But my personal advice, it isn't the ones that look like monsters you've got to worry about." The thestral said, spreading her wings. A heavy gust filled the room, shaking everything as she launched herself at Crimson. Her blade was drawn, the runes along the metal lighting up. "Worry about the thestral that wants to kill you."

"Oh great..." Crimson thinks before getting his weapon up and trying to block, while focusing his magic on seeing if she has some form of liquid in the monsters body.

Sleek aimed the crossbow, loading a bolt into it as he watched the thestral. "Stand down, winged one." He gave a warning shot, shooting the crossbow bolt into one of the thestral's wings.

The wing blades the thestral had attached lit up, a flash of magic covering her wings as the bolt was deflected. Just as quickly she spun, planting one hoof into Crimson's chest and launching him into the far wall as she propelled herself towards Sleek. She slammed into him with more force than her size belied, her eyes thin slits as she smiled at Sleek. Her wings flapped again, lifting the both of them before slamming Sleek into the wall. "You don't give warnings, you take down the enemy when they give you an opening. Calling out to them draws their attention to you, losing the edge of surprise." She said, before stepping back. "You shouting before you fired gave me enough time to trigger the defense spells on the wing blades. It doesn't matter who they are, even if they were your ally a few minutes earlier." She lifted up her blade, the runes flashing. "You're both fit enough to go on to day two, minus some training you'll get if you can make it through the week. Let's go see if there's anypony downstairs still 'alive'." She said, sheathing her blade. "Oh, and Crimson. The Commander will want to talk to you. You can probably guess about what." She said, her clothing flashing with magic before taking on the trademark black of the Equinox Guard. "Mirage should be about done with his fun, so take off that gear and come on." She said, walking out into the hall.

"Ow..." Crimson groans a little, before taking off the gear and putting it back where it was. "What does the Commander want with me?" Crimson thinks to himself. "I would know? I really hope...it's not the obvious about me..." He mentally sighs out before following the thestral. "Uh, do you know where the commander is?" He asks honestly, continuing to follow along hoping the thestral will point him in the right direction.

"The commander will find you when he needs to talk to you." The thestral said, leading the two downstairs. There was a changeling sitting on a chair surrounded by dozens of the other recruits, a handful up and walking about as they checked on the others. "How many left Mirage?" "Thirteen awake, five uncounscious that I'd recommend. They can put up a fight, glad I wasn't in this shape." Mirage said, rubbing his jaw. "They took the lifting bars to my back while I was 'eating' one of the other recruits." "Always the quickest way to sort out who we want." The thestral said. "How long is that poison going to keep them under for this time?" "I got the dosage right, they'll only be out for two or three hours. Those two?" Mirage asked, pointing at Crimson and Sleek. "Stone's favorites, sent them up to the armory. For now, make sure that none of the other recruits are drowning on vomit or saliva. There are usually at least one or two that have a bad reaction to Mirage's poison." The thestral said, turning to look at Crimson and Sleek.

"Hello." Crimson says nervously. "I suppose you are the one that caused...this?" Crimson asks, not really knowing who the changeling is besides hearing the thestral call the changeling 'Mirage'.

"Yes, I am." Mirage said. "As for why, it's to break the wheat from the chaff." "Those that responded properly, by attempting to beat the beast and defend their fellow recruits, are the ones we want. The ones who were too busy cowering in fear, get sent home." The thestral said. "Actions speak louder than words. We don't care about what your bloodline is, who your great uncle used to be, the connections you have back home. When you come here, you are no more than a pony. And the ponies that protect their fellows are the ponies worth attempting to train." Mirage said. "Where were these two?" "Stone sent them up to the armory. You're lucky I stepped in, otherwise they'd have put a crossbow bolt into you." The thestral said, flipping over one of the recruits. "I'll have a word with him later. For now, the commander is waiting outside for everyone that's awake. I'll get the five to the medical ward for the antitoxin and send them for debrief afterwards." Mirage said, looking at the handful of ponies staring at him. "If you keep staring, I'll give you something to stare at and then I'll rip your faces off." "Calm down Mirage. It isn't common knowledge that Changelings work with the Equinox. Other than unrecorded encounters here and there, most only know about changelings from the Wedding Invasion." The thestral said. "That being said, he is the Sergeant-at-arms of the Equinox Overwatch. You will show him the respect he is due, or you will find out just how quickly your life can turn to hell. Go wait outside in the courtyard, we'll be along shortly."

The commander was sitting on a chair, reading a paper as the recruits filed out into the courtyard. "See, day one and we've already cut the possibles from two hundred to twenty." He said, the sound of paper rustling as he turned the page. "You're probably wondering why we would do such a thing. The answer to that, is because we can. You're also in luck, one of the Oracle squads is going to be stopping by here today. You'll get to meet some of the top ranked members of the Equinox, and the most dangerous ponies on the planet. Now, any other questions? Because in about twenty minutes everyone is going to be out here to greet them. Ask them now, otherwise you won't get a chance to until the week is up."
